In a powerful show of community support and humanitarian action, the Good Samaritan Association (GSA) launched a vital agricultural empowerment project titled “Agricultural Maize and Fertilizer Distribution to Aged Farmers in Awing Village.” The initiative brought much-needed agricultural support to farmers affected by the ongoing crisis in the Northwest Region of Cameroon.
Project Overview
The project, carried out on March 2, 2025, aimed to revive the spirit of farming among aged parents who had long abandoned their fields due to instability and hardship. With the help of GSA volunteers, each participating farmer received three packets of agricultural maize and one packet of fertilizer, along with training on its use.
The project began with statistical data collection on February 27, 2025, and culminated in a distribution event that emphasized education and practical application. The event included speeches, training, and gratitude-filled interactions that underscored its impact.
Why Awing Village?
Awing was carefully chosen as the site for this initiative because of its deep suffering from the Anglophone crisis. Many parents had abandoned their farms and lost hope in agriculture. GSA saw this project as a necessary intervention to help these farmers re-engage with farming and regain self-sufficiency
The Day’s Activities
The day of the event unfolded with warmth and purpose:
- A welcome speech from the village head.
A message of hope and commitment from the GSA team leader.
Educational lectures on the importance of using viable seeds and how to apply fertilizer correctly.
The distribution of agricultural maize and fertilizer.
A heartfelt vote of thanks from the community.
Impact on the Community
Fifty aged farmers directly benefited from this project. The initiative didn’t just provide them with physical resources—it restored their motivation and helped them envision a productive farming season. Through training, they gained practical agricultural knowledge, and with renewed confidence, many have already planted the seeds of hope—literally.

Overcoming Challenges
The project was not without its hurdles. Limited funding made it difficult to serve every farmer in the village. GSA adapted by slightly reducing the number of packs per person in order to accommodate more people. The association also managed transportation by hiring a vehicle for their team and the supplies.
