The outreach program organized by Good Samaritan Association on March 28th at Angels of Bethany School in the Northwest region of Cameroon aimed to educate teenage girls between the ages of 12 to 18 on menstrual hygiene and distribute sanitary pads to empower them to manage their menstrual health effectively.
Education on Menstrual Hygiene
The program commenced at 9 am with a comprehensive session led by a medical expert from the team of Good Samaritan Association. The expert provided detailed guidance on the importance of menstrual hygiene, proper usage of sanitary pads, and maintaining cleanliness during menstruation. Essential topics such as the correct disposal of sanitary pads and the recommended time intervals for changing pads were discussed to ensure the girls understood how to care for their menstrual health.
Interactive Session
Following the educational session, an interactive Q&A segment was conducted, allowing the students to ask questions related to menstrual hygiene. The team addressed the queries raised by the students, enhancing their knowledge and dispelling any misconceptions surrounding menstruation. This interactive approach fostered a safe space for open dialogue and encouraged the girls to seek clarification on sensitive topics.
Sanitary Pad Distribution
As part of the outreach program, Good Samaritan Association procured 12 dozens of sanitary pads (144 pads) to distribute among the teenage girls. The distribution of sanitary pads was met with joy and gratitude by both the students and teachers present at Angels of Bethany School. The provision of sanitary pads not only addressed the immediate needs of the girls but also emphasized the importance of access to menstrual hygiene products in promoting their overall well-being.
Impact on Students and Administrators
The students and teachers expressed their appreciation for the informative session on menstrual hygiene, highlighting the significance of such initiatives in empowering young girls. Additionally, some of the distributed sanitary pads were handed over to the school administrators to ensure that girls facing sudden menstrual flow challenges could access the necessary supplies promptly. This collaborative effort between Good Samaritan Association and Angels of Bethany School underscored the commitment to supporting menstrual health awareness and access to essential resources.
